CURIOSITY

HOW DOES THE INTERPRETER'S BRAIN WORK?

A brain partition process takes place: while the left hemisphere deals with oral output in the target language, the right hemisphere gets the next phrase to be processed. This process demands a great effort from the interpreter's brain and this is why two interpreters must always work together and take turns every 20 or 30 minutes. Be suspicious of interpreters who claim they can work alone all day in a conference! After 90 minutes or so, accuracy and quality will be sacrificed.
