Simultaneous, consecutive or whispering interpretation?

SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION

In simultaneous interpretation, the interpreters work inside a soundproof booth and translate the speech in real time to the audience who listens to the translation through earphones.

Pros:
Conference time is maximized.
Recommended for conferences with more than 15 attendees.
The speaker feels free to elaborate on the conference topic without making pauses.

CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETATION

In consecutive interpretation, the interpreter stands or sits down next to the speaker and translates the speech fragment by fragment after each pause.

Pros:
Recommended for small business meetings, press rounds and conferences with less than 15 attendees.
Technical equipment is not required.
Suitable for making questions and clarifications as the conference goes on.

whispering

Whispering is a technique similar to simultaneous interpretation but where booth equipment is not required.
The translated speech is whispered to no more than two attendees.

INTERPRETATION CURIOSITY

Documents dating back to 3000 years ago, when pyramids were built, describe people who would take pride in offering linguistic services –they were the first interpreters who worked in old Egypt. Pharaohs introduced the hereditary title of SENIOR INTERPRETER and some were called SOTER (savior). Rulers would resort to interpreters, who escorted them during military campaigns, diplomatic and trade missions with Phoenicians and Cretans. (Nothing has changed!).
